Support the Sickle Cell Disease Comprehensive Care Act

ASH has been working with congressional sickle cell disease (SCD) champions on bipartisan legislation to improve care for individuals with SCD. The Sickle Cell Disease Comprehensive Care Act (/) expands the existing Medicaid Health Home program, first authorized as part of the Affordable Care Act, to allow states to submit a state plan amendment (SPA) to establish a Health Home with sickle cell disease (SCD) as the single qualifying condition for eligibility.

Today, too many individuals living with SCD are not under the care of specialists or primary care physicians that understand the disease and have the tools to effectively treat those affected. This legislation aims to ensure that individuals with SCD have better access to comprehensive, high quality outpatient care, including recommended clinical, mental health, ancillary, and support services.

ASH has been working with members of Congress to include the legislation in an end-of-year legislative package and we need your help in getting the support of your elected officials. Please take a moment and enter your information below to quickly send a message to your elected officials in support of this legislation. Thank you for your help in making sure Congress hears from hematologists about the needs of SCD patients.
