ASH provides the following resources to support Program Directors, Fellows, and Trainees as they respond to the changing program requirements for QI training. The following include programs which award degrees, certificates, or continuing education credits and feature both virtual and in-person formats.

ASH Quality Improvement Training Institute (QITI)

This 16 month-long hybrid educational mentorship program provides hematologic care teams with the training to develop, implement, lead, and sustain quality improvement initiatives at their home institution. Learn more.

Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) − Open School Basic Certificate in Quality and Safety

This online program provides online courses written by world-renowned faculty; a network of like-minded learners and educators; video case studies and games; project-based learning opportunities; and the IHI Open School Basic Certificate in Quality and Safety upon completion of 13 online courses. .

The George Washington University − Masters of Science in Health Sciences in Health Care Quality

In partnership with the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), this online program was developed for patient safety and quality leaders to advance their career and meet the growing demand for patient-centered, quality-based care. It teaches students the skills to lead developments in healthcare quality while successfully navigating safety improvement challenges in local and global markets. The interdisciplinary, practice-based curriculum prepares individuals with healthcare experience for leadership roles in quality-based healthcare, as graduates gain the knowledge and skills necessary to redefine quality care. .

The University of Illinois Chicago − Patient Safety Leadership Online Programs

The Patient Safety, Error Science and Full Disclosure Certificate is a graduate-level program offered entirely online and designed as an introduction to the issues involved in patient care quality and safety. The certificate program addresses skills and strategies needed to improve patient care outcomes. The programs provide participants with access to the world’s leading authorities in safety, quality, medical informatics and health leadership.

The Master of Science degree is also offered online, but includes a one week on-site residency in Chicago. The program focuses on inter-professional teamwork, simulation training, communication, collaboration and organizational change. Students learn to design, implement and lead a broad range of patient safety and quality healthcare activities. Students also connect with experienced faculty and a multidisciplinary network of fellow healthcare professionals who are committed to improving patient safety. .

Harvard Medical School − Certificate in Safety, Quality, Informatics and Leadership (SQIL) and Master's degree of Healthcare Quality and Safety (MHQS)

SQIL is a one-year certificate program that consists of three in-person, four-day workshops, live interactive webinars, pre-recorded lectures and peer collaboration. The program is designed for people working in leadership roles in clinical quality and patient safety including medical doctors, nurses, administrative leaders, policy makers, researchers and industry professionals.

The Master's degree is a one-year, in-person degree program. For professionals who may need to align coursework with their busy schedules, there is a part-time, two year, option available. The programs provide participants with access to the world’s leading authorities in safety, quality, medical informatics and health leadership. .

Jefferson College of Population Health − Healthcare Quality & Safety programs

The six, seven-week terms are designed for experienced health executives and practitioners. Graduates will be able to design, implement, and disseminate programs and policies that measurably improve healthcare quality and patient safety.

The graduate certificates prepare healthcare professionals to achieve proficiency in quality and safety. Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Master of Applied Science in Patient Safety and Healthcare Quality

The Patient Safety and Healthcare Quality two-year master’s program is an interdisciplinary degree offered in collaboration with the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Johns Hopkins School of Nursing and the Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality. The program combines coursework from JHU’s top-ranked schools with the Armstrong Institute’s pioneering advances in patient safety. Program designed to educate students in the transformative mechanisms and evidence-based protocols that reduce preventable patient harm and improve clinical outcomes. .

Northwestern University Master of Science in Health Care Quality and Patient Safety

This two-year, part-time, classroom- and remotely-based master's program focuses on the theoretical and practical skills necessary for improving healthcare delivery systems in line with changing policy landscape of our healthcare system. The curriculum is designed for both clinical and non-clinical healthcare professionals who want to focus their career development on improving healthcare delivery systems, particularly in regard to quality and safety. .

Queen’s University Master of Science in Healthcare Quality

This two year, part-time master's program based in Canada consists of eight interdisciplinary courses and a supervised project. The program will prepare professionals for practice, research and education in the developing area of Health Quality, Risk and Safety where graduates will be prepared to promote, innovate and disseminate the theoretical and practical core concepts about quality, risk, and safety in healthcare. .

Veterans Administration Quality Scholars (VAQS) Program

This program trains leaders and scholars in healthcare improvement for the VA and leads change both nationally and internationally. There are eight sites across the United States, as well as an affiliate site in Toronto, Canada where participants can attend. Each site in the US consists of a partnership between a VA hospital and an academic institution. .

Intermountain Healthcare Delivery Institute miniAdvanced Training Program (miniATP)

This 11-day, four-session, practical and in-depth program, is offered to healthcare professionals who need to teach, implement and investigate quality improvement, outcome measurement and management, of both clinical and non-clinical processes. The courses are designed to train senior leaders, middle management, and front-line health professionals in the theory and application of cost and quality control, and the health services academic infrastructure. .

Cincinnati Children's James M. Anderson Center for Health Systems Excellence Advanced Improvement Methods (AIM)

This highly interactive course was created for faculty from academic medical centers who lead improvement projects and already know the basics of quality improvement, clinical epidemiology and/or research methods. Through four two-day didactic sessions, case studies, simulation exercises and projects, participants will apply improvement theory and methods to the leadership of projects involving research, clinical care and operations, as well as, gain the knowledge and skills to apply the science of improvement to the design, implementation and study of quality improvement initiatives in clinical settings. .
